The kind of romantic care that feels familiar, nourishing, and comforting—like a home‑cooked meal or the foods tied to our fondest memories—did not vanish with earlier generations. It remains present and deeply rooted. What deserves emphasis is what has endured. No individual or relationship is without flaws, yet our community has consistently sustained love and devotion despite the hardships imposed upon us. Even in eras when the United States sought to delegitimize Black marriages and criminalize Black intimacy, Black people continued to choose one another. This work foregrounds that persistence: the continuity of affection, the resilience of partnership, and the enduring presence of Black love.
