Black women are masterpieces, beautifully crafted from birth. We are blessed with the gift of melanin in our skin, radiating exquisite beauty. From the softest shades to the richest tones, our melanin shines with fierce brilliance, intentionally showcasing our diversity. We are uniquely perfect in our entirety, embracing every flaw as part of our extraordinary essence.
How could I possibly refrain from creating art that celebrates black women? As a proud black woman myself, I feel an unwavering responsibility to challenge the dominant narratives surrounding beauty. While we have made strides in redefining societal standards, Eurocentric ideals still hold a powerful sway over perceptions of beauty. It is my mission, through some of my artworks, to confront and dismantle these damaging beauty norms that endeavor to make black women feel inferior.
In this piece, I offer my abstract interpretation of the magnificence inherent in black women. Though the work is abstract, I believe the essence of its message is unmistakable. The beauty I seek to convey is both profound and evident.
