Framed poster -We Do Not See Everything
The title for this artwork emerged from a juxtaposition of two distinct images that compelled my imagination. The first is an advertisement featuring a craft kit designed for creating a plastic model of a human eye, complete with intricate details that imitate the complexity of our visual system. The second image captures a zoomed-in photograph of a dog’s eye, showcasing the captivating reflections that dance within it.
It’s fascinating that dogs possess anatomical advantages that enhance their ability to see in low-light conditions far beyond what humans can perceive. This insight sparked a deeper reflection within me, particularly about the nature of perception itself.
When we experience profound emotions—despair, intense anger, or even overwhelming joy—our ability to see the world around us can become distorted. These heightened emotional states can cloud our judgment and obscure our vision, both literally and metaphorically.
This connection between the two images—the clinical, almost sterile representation of a human eye and the rich, primal essence captured in the dog’s eye—invited me to explore the idea that our emotional experiences can act as a veil, limiting our understanding and awareness. Perhaps this is why I felt a pull towards these contrasting visual representations, as they encapsulate the complexity of perception and the profound impact of our emotions on how we interpret the world.
