  • Once upon a time, a logo was born from the minstrel song "Old Aunt Jemima," representing a deeply disrespectful caricature of Black women. This logo emerged in an era when most Black women toiled as domestics for white households, often referred to as “aunt” rather than “Mrs.” The name "Aunt Jemima" implied a black woman who was subservient and existed solely to serve and care for others, often at the expense of her own well-being.

Yet, amidst these dehumanizing stereotypes, Black women have always fought back with strength and resilience. They have consistently challenged and reclaimed their identities from the shadows of marginalization.

And let’s be clear: Black women have ALWAYS exuded undeniable style and grace—inside and out. I created this artwork to illuminate a powerful truth: despite the darkness that often shrouds us through harmful stereotypes, there will always be a beacon of light. That light represents our unwavering truth and enduring humanity.
