Peace, love, and understanding tell me
Is there no place for anything else?
They say we must fight
To keep our freedom
But Lord, knows there's got to be
A better wayWar!
God, y'all!

Song: War
Performing Artist: Edwin StarrThis artwork marks a notable departure in my aesthetic approach. I opted for bold graphics and vibrant colors to captivate viewers and draw them into a deeper conversation. To me, war is an unfathomable human tragedy, and my goal here is not to diminish the courage of those who have served, including my father, who was a veteran. Rather, I seek to illuminate a sobering truth: even when a war concludes with a semblance of peace—often following complex negotiations—it seldom addresses the underlying grievances that sparked the conflict in the first place. Nuanced public discourse becomes increasingly challenging, if not entirely impossible. Consequently, many wars begat new wars. And even in the absence of a new conflict, the prejudices and stereotypes against those labeled "the enemy" endure, poisoning our shared humanity.
I don’t claim to have all the answers. I simply wish for this world to prioritize cultivating a culture of peace.
In this piece, I incorporated paper planes to convey the fragility of life, dialogue, and diplomacy—the delicate potential for humanity to unravel. The soldier embodies the societal belief that war is an inevitable necessity, the sole means to achieve peace and uphold a democracy that remains flawed and inaccessible to many, irrespective of conflict. The soldier's gaze turned away from the paper planes, symbolizes society's denial of the true costs of war. Finally, the logo in the background represents our collective attempt to mask discord with hollow ideals—an effort that often ends up tainting our world.
