Framed poster -Ox No.1
This artwork was created to highlight the powerful presence and visibility of Black women. The symbolism and the subject’s face are an abstract focal point.
The grocery store tag carries layered meanings. The ox is a compelling symbol of resilience, patience, and determination. Black women display these traits to navigate a society that is often indifferent, unkind, or ungenerous. The ox also signifies steady, methodical advancement, echoing the ongoing journey of Black women through adversity.
The tag indicates that the ox has been reduced to ox tails, sold at a premium in a store. This represents societal obstacles and the high costs of pursuing equality.
Society often neglects our humanity and identity, yet the expression of this Black woman demonstrates that we are not a monolith and deserve greater recognition. This work is intended to invite reflection: How often do we challenge accepted narratives or confront perspectives that silence voices and ignore struggles? How will you acknowledge her today? Let these questions linger and move you toward deeper empathy and understanding.
