Firstly, this work wasn’t inspired by religion or the comical scene from Abbott Elementary.
This collage was inspired by the lived experience of being a Black woman—by the constant need to process raw emotions stirred by a society shaped by racism, discrimination, gender marginalization, and the same tired tropes that refuse to die.
Yes, we have a right to be angry. We have a right to set boundaries. Not all of us embrace the WWJD mentality, and even the sistas who do have their emotional limits. Grace does not mean silence. Patience does not mean endurance without end.
Imagine being reminded, day after day, that your autonomy and humanity are up for negotiation. How would you respond? Would you always be calm, gracious, and composed? Or would you eventually reach a point where your truth demanded to be seen and heard?
