This artwork is my abstract interpretation of the Black Woman Savior trope, an erroneous ideology rooted in the racialization, control, and oppression of Black women, burdening them with society’s ills without complaint or recognition. Black women are persistently expected to show up, even when it means fighting for the interests of others while no one advocates for theirs.

In this piece, the collaged image of the Black woman walks toward a dangerous situation she did not create, symbolized by a smoky fire in the street. The bucket she carries represents the inadequate resources society provides, while the antenna signifies the communication between Black women and an imperfect society they are called to save, only for it to continue operating in ways that erase their humanity.
