Performing Artists: MazeAs I gazed at the completed artwork, the lyrics from "Golden Time of Day" danced through my mind. The word "honey" conjured images of sunsets, evoking feelings of joy, peace, and the sweetness life has to offer. Once again, I also chose to incorporate cornbread into my piece, a symbol of resilience, pride, and cultural identity. To me, cornbread represents not just a dish, but a deep-rooted connection to home—a home that transcends physical space and resides within us through black joy, black pride, and the legacies of our ancestors.
This abstract interplay serves to illustrate a Black woman’s journey of self-love in a society that often fails to recognize and embrace her existence. When she finally discovers the love she seeks within herself, it sparks a revolutionary transformation and marks the beginning of her golden times.
