This collage emerged intuitively, without a predetermined message, yet it aligns with my ongoing artistic aim: affirming Black men’s rightful place within the human narrative. The central figure’s expression recalled Abraham Lincoln’s deeply fatigued visage, prompting me to collage his head onto Lincoln’s body, seated in a throne‑like chair. The inclusion of the phrase “In God We Trust,” sourced from U.S. currency, arose instinctively and felt essential to the composition.
Because the meaning resists a neat explanation, I chose to leave this work untitled, inviting you to approach it through your own lens and discover the narrative that emerges for you.
